Hunger at Home: Food for our Neighbors

Keynote Speaker: Rev. Dr. Robert Edgar Bob Edgar is President and CEO of Common Cause, which has nearly 400,000 members and supporters. Before assuming leadership of Common Cause, Edgar served seven years as General Secretary of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA, and before that as President of the Claremont School of Theology. From 1974-1986, Edgar served six terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania's 7th Congressional District. Edgar was part of the congressional class nicknamed "the Watergate babies," those elected in the wake of the Watergate scandal and who led sweeping reforms of Congress.

This annual gathering will include discussion of both local and national food and hunger issues and tools for advocacy with our elected members of Congress.

This year's Offering of Letters campaign will urge Congress to make changes in the U.S. tax code that will benefit low-income families and help them lift themselves and their children out of hunger and poverty.

The workshop will offer materials, key information, and creative learning experiences to equip you to organize an Offering of Letters in your church, campus, or group.

The program will also include presentations on local food and hunger issues, and workshops on advocacy skills.

Workshop topics (in two breakout sessions) will include: Soup Kitchens/Food Banks & Pantries/Angel Food Ministries Food Services and Nutrition in our Public Schools Community Gardens U.S. and Pa. Tax Codes and Economic Policies: Moving Families from Poverty to Self-Sufficiency. "How-To" workshop(s): Offering of Letters Working with Media Letter-Writing Basics ...
